About Supernova

Supernova is the University of Chicago’s competitive Women's and Non-Binary Ultimate Frisbee club. Founded on principles of athletic development, spirit of the game, and community, we welcome players of all experience levels—from lifelong competitors to complete beginners.

We practice year-round and travel to compete in USA Ultimate (USAU) tournaments. Our mission is to foster a supportive and inclusive sports community on campus where players can learn, compete, and form lifelong friendships.

Practice Info

Join us at our weekly practices! We hold open practices and welcome newcomers throughout the academic year. No prior disc experience is required to join.

Our Community

Beyond the field, we host social events, team dinners, and bonding activities to build a strong, supportive network on and off campus.

Join Supernova

Join Supernova: women's and non-binary ultimate frisbee. Players dive, run and jump for discs while the mascot holds a sign reading Come Throw With Us. Instagram @uchi_supernova.

No Experience? No Problem.

Almost everyone on our team started college having never thrown a frisbee before! We don't have tryouts for newcomers—if you want to play, learn, and have fun, you are on the team. All we need from you is to show up, we'll handle (no pun intended) the rest.

1. How Do I Start?

You can literally just show up! Look out for flying discs (frisbees, not UFOs) at the practice field during any of our scheduled times. Also keep and eye out for similar strange sightings on the main quad; you are welcome to throw with us between classes too!

You don't need to sign up, RSVP, or register in advance. Just introduce yourself to anyone throwing, and we'll get you plugged in right away.

2. What Should I Bring?

You only need a few basic things for your first practice:

  • Athletic clothing (dress for the weather!).
  • Running shoes (or soccer/football cleats if you have them).
  • A water bottle.
  • A light shirt AND a dark shirt (this makes dividing up for scrimmages easy).

3. Still Nervous? Reach Out!

It is completely normal to feel hesitant about showing up to a new club and trying a new sport. If you want a friendly face to meet you before practice, or have any questions at all, let us know!
